My name is Chani- pronounced “Cha” (like cha-cha-cha) and “ni” (like knee). My last name is Demello. I am the founder of Moms On Boards and manage the website and products. The members and supporters are the "US" that makes up Moms On Boards!

As for me, I am a mother of two boys-Zico 10 and Tosh 8. Before I became a mom I was very active and very carefree. I was rarely stressed or worried about life. But after I became a mom things changed, namely me. I forgot who Chani was. I was totally consumed with being the super mom. Even my husband moved down on my list of priorities. So there I was, a stay at home mom, with two boys (17 months apart), breastfeeding at least one of them, changing both of their diapers, watching Elmo and Teletubbies. Rarely having time to take a shower or even comb my hair. Slowly losing sight of who "Chani" was. I was giving so much of my heart, soul and energy to my family that I forgot to find ways to feed and nurture myself. I started feeling empty and depressed.

And then our family moved from Long Beach, CA to Seal Beach, CA. It’s amazing what 10 miles can do.

If you have never been to Seal Beach, it is an old quaint family oriented town tucked between Long Beach and Huntington Beach. A true hidden treasure.

Both of my children started kindergarten when we moved to Seal Beach. So there I was....home alone for a few hours a day wondering......"now what". That is when I started surfing. My husband, John, took me and some other moms out into the water and started pushing us into the whitewash. That was the beginning of my love affair with surfing. John has been surfing for 30+ years and shared all his knowledge with us. He had so much patience, understanding, encouragement and support for all of us. Thanks John, you are the love of my life.

Well after about a year surfing and totally lovin' it, I wanted some apparel to represent me, as a mom who surfs. So I went into the local surf shop to get something...but all they had were things that said; surf chick, surfer girl, surf diva and wahine. Which I didn't feel represented me. So I set out on my adventure with Moms On Boards.

My mission with Moms On Boards is to honor, celebrate, recognize, represent and encourage moms from all walks of life. Moms On Boards hopes to encourage moms to find that one thing that nurtures their spirit and feeds their soul.

I would like to thank all who have become a member, purchased a shirt, e-mailed me, gave me pictures, surfed with me, believed in me and helped me! Thank you all! I hope to "Pay it forward" someday and touch at least one person's life, as you all have touched mine!
