When were you born:
October 18, 1965
Hometown:
Monterey Park, CA. I now live in Rossmoor, CA. with my family.
How many kids do you have?
I have two beautiful sons that are my gifts from God. Andy is 12 years old. He is kind and gentle. He is a musician and he loves the ocean. Kevin is 8 years old. He is funny and mischevious. Everything he does he gives 100% and doesn't get discouraged. I love raising them. I wake up every morning so grateful that they are mine. I am also very happy to have a wonderful husband, Chris.
When did you start surfing?
I started surfing three years ago, but didn't get out all that much. Since October of 2006 I've been surfing with my friend Mike Baker. He has taught me so much about surfing, the ocean and life. He has a beautiful aloha spirit.
What kind of board/s are you on?
I have a 7'10" Wave Hog. It's not the most feminine of boards, but it catches waves and it's really light and easy to paddle.
What is your life philosophy?
I am a writer, and so by nature I have endless philosophies on life. If anyone has time or the inclination we can discuss the meaning of life over coffee. However, the one philosophy I try to live by daily is: Life should be fun! I believe that life is made up of moments that make the hours, days, months and years of our lives. I try to push gossip and bad thoughts from my mind and keep my moments filled with surfing, kissing, music, friendship, etc....
Advice to other beginners.
Don't give up!! Surfing is not easy, but it's definately worth all the frustration, wipe-outs, looking dorky, and dings (to your board, your body and definately your ego).
What are some of your other hobbies?
Playing pan (steel drums), writing, reading, skiing, hiking, watching animals, gardening and traveling. I especially love walking for hours through a city I am not familiar with. I recently started playing ukelele with some of my surf sisters. We call ourselves the Uke-ladies. I really enjoy talking and spending time with friends.
What is your occupation?
Full time mom.
These are a few of my favorite things:
Favorite act of kindness:
Acts of kindness are everywhere. I think that good and evil are everywhere and if we look for good it spills forth from an endless cup, unfortunately evil works the same way. I am touched by people daily and would quote an occasion, but my son Kevin is eating pizza in my lap right now and distracting me.
Global or local issues that you feel strongly about and solutions you have:
I have many concerns with global issues, but I gave up discussing politics since I saw that these discussions divided people rather than bringing people together.
I saw a dead seal washed up on shore one day after surfing and it had a can in it's mouth. That made me really sad. I would love to see us focus on cleaning our world and perserving it's beauty for our children's children's children. I know we can do this if we come together as one planet.
Favorite surf experience:
I love surfing with and watching the M.O.B. surf.
Parenting tip:
Accept a child for whoever he or she is. Shower them with love. I like to kiss my boys a hundred times a day. They run from me wearing garlic necklaces, and wave from across the room. But I know they secretly like it!
